View Full Version : Install issues

The installer was unable to read the file "D:\Installer Tome.mpq". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at D:\--for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was "Repack-MPQ\Data#terrain.MPQ\World\Maps\Azeroth\Azeroth_31_53.adt", and the error code was 38.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::Read)

Now from reading forums...the OB client will work. So you might want to try using that if you have it and then just register your account...

someone, anyone, care to IM me that Open beta client?
*is on hold for tech support, over 40 mins now*
I have been cramming the forums for over 20 mins, apparently this is a widespread problem.

I also read on forums where someone swapped their cd rom for another and it worked...you got an extra cd rom layin around?

* an hour later, after a talk with Kyle @ blizzard support *
-- Issues with "high security programs" running during install.
Such as Zonealarm, Norton, esp win xp firewall found in SP2 patched machines temp disable these.
--Issues with P2P filesharing programs.
Limewire (was on my system) kazzaa, bearshare, etc, some of these are causing hangups with installs, even though they might be installed on the pc, but not running at the time. Uninstall till you can get wow installed.
Kyle asked me to copy all 4 cds to my HD, and try again making the above changes
Lets see if it works
*one hour later*
Well, it was the overclocking on my PC, overclocking a 900 mgz to 1.2 ghz was causing the decompression errors on reading the files. Kyle was kind enough to call me back, right as my install was finalizing. Blizzard really does provide awesome support.
Good luck to the rest of you guys. Kyle said if we have any more issues to call/email him. I have his personal work email, rather than the generic wow tech support email.

Rogue i had the same problems. what i did is i stop useing my high speed cd-rom burner 48X and used my old 12x and then had no problems

Yeah, mine was caused by overclocking and using a 52x drive to read the CD roms. apparently some data was being corrupted when decompressed from the huge mpq files.
Kyle said there was widespread problems with decompression of mpq's.
Glad you got it working
