Pindleskin Fact Sheet
Q) Who is he and why is he so popular?
A) Pindleskin is in the top Monster Level (ML). As such, he is able to drop *ANY* item in the game. Anything from a cracked sash to a Windforce. This is not a new fact and has been known for quite some time. He does not stand alone in this ML though, the other monsters that also share this ML are: Snapchip, Frozenstein and Thresh Socket. What makes Pindleskin so popular though is how easy he is to kill and how fast you can get to him. With some programs it is possible to do a Pindleskin run in under 15 seconds!
Q) If he can drop any item in the game, why do I get crap?
A) Well, his ML is a big part of the problem. Because he can drop any item in the game, the odds are actually against you that a Windforce will pop out. He has a 0.75324% chance of dropping a Super Healing Potion, a 0.0010831% chance of dropping a Hydra Bow and a 7.5389e-8 % (that is scientific notation) chance of dropping a Zod rune. As you can see, the chance of him dropping a Hydra Bow are pretty slim.
Q) Ok, but I have seen him drop a Hydra Bow before, but it was not a Windforce. What's up with that?
A) Well, this is where Magic Find comes into play. When you kill Pindleskin, the server basicly 'rolls the dice' to see what type of item will be dropped. As you can see, you only have a 0.0010831% chance of Hydra Bow being picked. If you get lucky and the server says 'Ok, you get a Hydra Bow' your MF percentage is now taken into account. If you have 350% MF, you have a 350% better chance of it being a Windforce.
Q) All those numbers sure are pretty, but my friend told me if I kill Pindleskin on a Tuesday, while scratching a black cat and eating an orange, I will get a Windforce. True?
A) Not at all. The numbers are built into the game. There is no 'secret MF percentage'. More is *ALWAYS* better, no matter what anyone says. If you can beat the first set of odds, the 0.0010831%, your MF comes into play and you have a better chance of getting a Windforce. The hard part is beating the 0.0010831%.
Q) Ok, so how the heck do I better my odds?
A) Kill Pindleskin as many times and as fast as you absolutly can. If you have 1000% MF and can only kill Pindleskin once every minute, you are actually worse off then someone with 100% MF who can kill Pindleskin four times a minute. The person with the lesser MF has a four times greater chance of beating the 0.0010831% odds then you. Of course, they will have a bit of a penalty when Hydra Bow is picked to be dropped, but they make up for that in the sheer numbers of runs they can do. Remember, high MF is good, but speed is better :)
Q) Ok, I have killed Pindleskin 50 times now. I can kill him really fast and my MF is about 500%. I didn't get a Windforce yet. WTF???
A) I will refer you back to this number: 0.0010831% Those are *TERRIBLE* odds. Go to Vegas with odds like that and you will lose every time. It takes time. It takes patience. Get a bot and let him do the runs for you. You will have better odds that way. Not *WAY* better odds, but still, something is better then nothing.
Q) Ok, set aside everything you just typed. I have it on good authority (I mean, I saw it in the chat channel) that Pindleskin is nerfed. True?
A) Possibly, but not very likely. Blizzard could nerf him if they wanted, but with the already bad odds you have now, why make it even worse? Most people, as soon as they have a couple runs with nothing found, immediatly holler 'Pindleskin is nerfed!!'. I know I mention it a lot, but it is a vitaly important number: 0.0010831%. This number, combined with bad luck, are what is preventing you from the good stuff.
